Misinformation abounds everywhere these days. And, the biggest untruth that many people still believe is that eating FAT makes you fat. Unfortunately, this is not true. Eating fat can not be to blame for gaining weight.
The blame for obesity has been put on fat for years, and science has tried many different maneuvers to help fix the situation. They created margarine, a trans fat, to replace our butter. They told everyone to stop eating avocados and nuts because they were full of fat. They started making low-fat everything, from milk to yogurt to ice cream, etc. And eating low-fat became a big diet trend to the detriment of people’s health.
THE BODY NEEDS FAT
You see, eating low-fat or no fat is very hard on the body. The body needs carbohydrates/ sugars, fat, and protein in order to create energy for the body. Converting protein into energy takes a lot of energy, so the body prefers to convert carbs and fat first. Converting carbs and fat takes much less energy in these processes. If you are not eating fat in your diet, your body is going to have a hard time making energy. And we all need energy, right?
Also, the body is made up of cells, and cells are constantly in cycles of dying and regeneration. The outside of the cell, the cell membrane is composed mostly of fat. The reason is that many substances have to pass in and out of the cell in order to be utilized and fat is the perfect medium for this. Again, if you are not eating enough fat in your diet, where is the body going to get enough fat when it is replacing new cells?
THE REAL CULPRIT BEHIND WEIGHT GAIN
So, the truth of the matter is fat does not make you gain weight, instead, the real culprit is Sugar. Sugar can be in the form of sweeteners, soda, candy bars, and also bread, rice, and pastries. When the body is being fed too much sugar, which we tend to do on a daily basis with the standard American diet, the body converts the sugar into fat. Especially if the person has a blood sugar regulation problem, the fat will accumulate in the abdomen of the body.
If you want to lose weight, you need to take out the sugary foods in your diet.
